In 2014, Montblanc introduced its first in-house worldtime complication to demonstrate the expertise of the brand in creating practical and easy-to-use watch complications (you can read about it here).
The latest evolution of this original interpretation of the worldtime complication is the new Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum ref. 128675. The term “Orbis Terrarum” comes from the Latin for “circuit of the world” and was the name given to a round world map created by the Roman general Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa in the first century AD.

Housed in a 43 m x 13.84 mm case crafted from stainless steel with polished and satin-finishing and the typical onion-shaped crown, the watch is characterised by a black and grey dial with rose gold-coated continents and meridians creating a warm and refined colour scheme.

Powered by the MB 29.20 automatic calibre beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of approximately 42-hours, the Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum is very easy to use. Once set, the user only has to press on the pusher located at 8 o’clock until the reference city is at the top. The hour and minute hands will automatically synchronize to indicate the time in the city of choice.

An upper sapphire crystal dial shows a rose gold-coated cut-out of the continents as seen from the North Pole. These are encircled by the names of the 24 cities representing the different time zones.
Engraved with a “waves” decoration in its centre, the lower dial disc indicates day and night by changing from light grey (for daylight hours) to dark grey (for the night) thus showing the 24 hours of the different time zones and giving an overview of the passage of the sun around the planet in a practical and intuitive way.

The chapter ring around the outside of the dial is punctuated by luminescent dots every five minutes that, combined to Super-LumiNova-filled hands and the anti-reflective coating of the domed sapphire crystal, enhance the readability of the time in darker environments or poor light conditions.
Matched to a dark grey alligator strap and water resistant to 50 metres / 165 feet, the new Montblanc Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum ref. 128675 has a price of Euro 6,700. montblanc.com
